Project Spotlight: Ford F350 GVM Upgrade to 6.1 Tonnes

Updated: 3 days ago
This 2024 Ford F350 dual-cab was already configured as a heavy-duty touring and towing platform. KME Vehicle Engineering assessed and certified a GVM increase from 5,638 kg to 6,059 kg in Queensland, with the engineering scope extending well beyond the new mass figure itself.
Before and after - Ford F350 GVM upgrade
GVM: 5,638 kg to 6,059 kg
GCM: remained 13,607 kg
rear axle/suspension rating: 3,279 kg to 3,700 kg
tyres changed to LT295/70R18 129Q

Engineering evidence and testing
The vehicle was inspected and tested on 22 and 23 June 2026. KME's controlled heavy-vehicle report records VSB 6 modification codes D3, E2, E3, F1, G4, J1, P1, S1 and S2, with supporting engineering evidence including rear-axle assessment and brake testing. The applicable Australian Design Rules were also reviewed as part of the evidence package.
Why the assessment matters
Increasing GVM changes the operating mass the vehicle is being asked to carry. The engineering assessment therefore considers the systems that support and control that mass, including axle capacity, suspension, wheels and tyres, and braking performance where applicable.
The result
The completed Queensland project documented a upgrde to 6,059 kg for this Ford F350 GVM upgrade, while GCM remained at 13,607 kg. The outcome is specific to this vehicle, its components and the evidence assessed; other F250 or F350 vehicles may require a different engineering scope or may not be eligible for the same rating.
Planning an F250 or F350 GVM upgrade?
