Chevrolet Silverado projects

Explore some of our recent KME Vehicle Engineering projects including GVM upgrades, suspension modifications and other engineering assessments.

Typical Silverado projects

KME Vehicle Engineering has undertaken engineering work across Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500 vehicles, covering a range of vehicle configurations and modification types. Each vehicle still needs to be assessed individually because the applicable engineering requirements and certification pathway depend on the vehicle configuration, modification scope and registration jurisdiction.

Silverado vehicles can fall into either the light- or heavy-vehicle engineering pathway depending on their GVM and configuration. KME Vehicle Engineering has experience across both.

Silverado owners commonly seek engineering for GVM changes, towing/GCM issues, heavy-vehicle category changes, seating changes, suspension/lift modifications, axle changes and other bespoke modifications.

Common Silverado modifications - what do you need certified?

GVM upgrades

Typical upgrades

Silverado 1500: 3,300 → 4,000 kg
Silverado 2500: 5,148 → 5,500–6,000 kg

Silverado 3500: 4,490 kg → 6,700 kg,  Silverado 4500: 8,000 kg → 10,400 kg

Important when mass thresholds change.

GCM & Braked towing capacity

Relevant when the combined vehicle-trailer mass needs to be assessed. Assessed separately and is specific to vehicle type.

Gooseneck hitch certification

kme-chevrolet-silverado-2500-gooseneck-hitch-project-01.jpg

A gooseneck hitch allows a Silverado to tow specialised heavy trailers using a coupling mounted in the tray rather than a conventional rear towbar.

Suspension and Lift
