Project Spotlight: Isuzu NPS 300 GVM and GCM Upgrade

KME Vehicle Engineering has completed the engineering assessment and Queensland certification of an Isuzu NPS 300 heavy vehicle, increasing its Gross Vehicle Mass from 6,000 kg to 7,500 kg and its Gross Combination Mass from 9,500 kg to 11,000 kg.

THE PROJECT

The vehicle was a 2012 Isuzu NPS 300 4x4 dual-cab truck. The project required a vehicle-specific assessment of the proposed higher mass ratings rather than relying on a generic model claim.

ENGINEERING SCOPE

KME assessed and certified the vehicle under VSB 6 modification codes G4, S1, S2 and S3. The work included front and rear axle capacity assessment, review of wheels and tyres, applicable Australian Design Rules and brake performance at the revised GVM and GCM.

The vehicle's brake system was not modified, but it was tested at the revised ratings. The signed Queensland Certificate of Modification records that the brake system was tested and compliant at the increased GVM and GCM.

CERTIFIED OUTCOME

GVM increased from 6,000 kg to 7,500 kg — an additional 1,500 kg of rated vehicle mass. GCM increased from 9,500 kg to 11,000 kg — an additional 1,500 kg of rated combined mass.

This approval applies to the assessed vehicle and configuration. An Isuzu NPS is not automatically eligible for the same ratings: suitability depends on the model, configuration, component capacities, condition, evidence and the applicable registration jurisdiction.
