What is a LandCruiser 300 Desert Kit?
A KME Vehicle Engineering LandCruiser 300 Desert Kit is a pre-registration GVM upgrade based on a defined approved vehicle configuration. The vehicle and fitted components must meet that configuration to be eligible.
What GVM options are available?
KME Vehicle Engineering offers different Desert Kit GVM configurations for the LC300. The available rating depends on the vehicle and selected configuration. Contact KME before ordering components so we can confirm the correct option.
Does the Desert Kit increase GCM and towing capacity?
Not automatically. GVM, GCM, axle ratings and braked towing capacity are separate limits. Increasing one does not automatically increase another, and the lowest applicable limit always controls.
Does the Desert Kit retain all passenger seats?
The vehicle must match the seating and other requirements of the applicable approved Desert Kit configuration. Check with KME before ordering or modifying the vehicle if retaining a particular seating configuration is important.
Is the Desert Kit the same as the LC300 Commercial Build?
No. The LC300 Desert Kit and LC300 Commercial Build are separate KME Vehicle Engineering configurations intended for different applications. KME can confirm which pathway best matches the vehicle's intended use.
Does the Desert Kit need to be fitted before first registration?
Yes. The Desert Kit is a pre-registration pathway and the vehicle must be completed in accordance with the applicable approved configuration before first registration. Already registered? KME can assess the available post-registration pathway instead.
Can KME help if my LC300 is already registered?
Yes. KME Vehicle Engineering provides post-registration GVM engineering services for LC300s. Available ratings, engineering requirements and approval processes depend on the vehicle configuration and registering jurisdiction.
Can I use any wheels, tyres or tow hitch?
No. Wheels, tyres, suspension, tow equipment and other relevant components must be compatible with the applicable approved configuration and required vehicle ratings. Contact KME before purchasing components if you are unsure.
Does a 4,210 kg GVM mean I can carry an additional 930 kg?
No. A 4,210 kg GVM is the vehicle's maximum permitted mass, not an additional 930 kg of payload. The vehicle, Desert Kit, accessories, fuel, occupants and cargo all contribute to its actual mass. Axle ratings, GCM, towing capacity and other applicable limits must also be satisfied.
Can KME work with my Toyota dealer or 4WD workshop?
Yes. KME Vehicle Engineering can work with your Toyota dealer or suitably equipped 4WD workshop to help ensure the LC300 is ordered and built to the required Desert Kit configuration.
Planning your LC300 build?
Contact KME Vehicle Engineering before ordering suspension, wheels, tyres, tow equipment or other major components. We can confirm the applicable Desert Kit configuration first and help avoid purchasing components that make the vehicle ineligible.
